Knitted VW cushions

Well the wool has arrived to start creating my cushions from the patterns my husband bought me for Christmas.
I started with the bug cushion pattern and using Cranberry as my main colour, with jet and chalk for the added windows, bumper and light detail. The pattern purchased from Slightly Sheepish was easy to read and knitted up really quickly due to the wool type, I soon had the back and front completed. It did take more time to add the detail.

The pattern suggested a 16inch x 16inch cushion pad, but I was fortunate to find a rectangle sized feather cushion 43 cm x 33 cm which shaped perfectly for the slopping graduated shape. I had never added a zip to a knitted piece before but was pleasantly surprised how easy it was.

I next started on the campervan cushion, again the pattern was purchased from Slightly Sheepish , this time I used colours chalk, jet and waterfall. Again the pattern was easy to follow, there was a few more colour changes but still achievable.
I created the VW sign using my Spellbinders circular dies and cut circles from black and white felt. I attached the two pieces together using blanket stitch and then added the V and W with black embroidery thread using chain stitch, this was fixed to the knitted piece with black thread and running stitch.

The zip was attached and the remaining three sides stitched up. Again a feather rectangle cushion pad was used measuring 43cm x 33 cm.
I was really pleased with the end results and they have pride of place on my chair.

The knitting needles are out...VW Baubles

Well Christmas came and went.... but I did get some amazing presents including some knitting and crochet patterns from my husband. I was itching to start but had no super chunky wool for my main patterns so I created some Christmas VW campervan baubles for the tree.

The pattern from Slightly Sheepish was easy to read and make , great to create whilst I waited for my wool to arrive.
